As the desert sun sets later and later, and orchard flowers begin to blossom, the Okanagan comes to life with spring. However, the most exciting part about the warmer weather is the resurgence of patio season. Overlooking the lush vineyards and arid deserts hills of the South Okanagan, Black Hills Estate Winery, located between Osoyoos and Oliver, has one of the best patios in the valley.
Whether you’re enjoying a seated wine flight on the vineyard terrace or sampling the new releases in a shaded cabana, there is no better way to welcome the balmy weather than a visit to Black Hills Estate Winery.
New Releases
While you’re visiting, make sure you try the newest release of the renowned Nota Bene. Black Hills started releasing their signature Nota Bene in 1999, and since then, the wine has gained a huge following. Latin for “take note,” Black Hills’ Nota Bene is a bold Bordeaux-style red blend that is perfect for aging.
“Nota Bene is a true representation of our Estate vineyard, and the quality of wine we produce at Black Hills,” said Black Hills head winemaker Ross Wise, MW.
Expertly blended, the wine evokes flavours of intense black cherry, red currant and subtle layers of dark spices. Year after year the team continues to produce a wine of exceptional taste and quality that will continue to drink well for years to come.
Another highly anticipated release from Black Hills is their Carménère. One of the first wineries in the Okanagan to plant Carménère grapes, Black Hills’ Carménère is arguably their most exclusive release of all. As one of very few wineries in Canada who produce Carménère, Black Hills is able to showcase their expertise and truly unique terroir through this wine. With aromas of black pepper, cherry and licorice and flavours of red berry fruits with an earthy finish, this rich wine is the perfect accompaniment to summer evening barbeques.
Nota Bene Release Party
Black Hills is thrilled to announce that the return of their famed Nota Bene Release Party will take place at the estate on June 18, 2022. After two years of no in-person events, the winery is eager to bring people together to try the newest vintage of Nota Bene and enjoy succulent food pairings catered by Miradoro Restaurant, as well as live music and various forms of unique entertainment. Black Hills’ Wine Club members will receive first access to tickets, but a limited number will be available to the public.
