Our cover this month features Executive Chef Maurice Desharnais on the balcony outside of Gray Monk’s new restaurant, The Lookout. Descharnais moved to the Okanagan from Niagara on the Lake and has created a new European-inspired, seasonal farm-to-table menu. He is a 20-year culinary veteran, and is excited to take the helm at The Lookout.
Our Wine Trails photographer, Kim Elsasser, had the pleasure of meeting and capturing a portrait of Chef Maurice Desharnais. “Our shoot was challenging,” said Elsasser. “At the time of the shoot, the kitchen and dining area were under construction. Fortunately, the beautiful Okanagan and the gorgeous views from Gray Monk Winery in early spring lends itself to a beautiful backdrop. I look forward to returning early May with my beautiful bride to enjoy the fine dining and beautiful view, and to try chef’s brand
new menu.”
Gray Monk was established in 1972 by George and Trudy Heiss, and is now proudly owned and operated by Andrew Peller Limited. Gray Monk has 75 acres of lush vineyards overlooking Okanagan Lake; this is in addition to premium grapes it sources throughout the Okanagan Valley to produce the award-winning wines. The newly renovated restaurant is set to open its doors May 1. Reservations are recommended.
