Join legendary Canadian wine industry pioneers, the Triggs family, as they mark the fifth anniversary of Culmina Family Estate Winery — their Golden Mile Bench estate — on September 14, 15 and 16.
Friday Fun
The weekend’s celebratory events kick off with a special edition of the Open Deck series featuring R&D by Culmina wines. Set in a gorgeous tasting room overlooking one of the best views in the region, wines will be paired with delicious small bites while a guest DJ plays an all-vinyl set.
Sumptuous Saturday
On September 15 the festivities continue, with a rare opportunity to attend a multi-course Collaborative Chefs’ Dinner created by two of Vancouver Magazine’s favourite chefs: Chef Alex Chen of Vancouver’s Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar and Chef Mark Filatow of Kelowna’s Waterfront Wines Restaurant.
Chef Alex Chen is known for guiding Team Canada to a top-10 finish at the 2013 Bocuse d’Or in Lyon, France (an incredibly prestigious gastronomic competition). He won the top spot in both the 2015 and 2017 editions of the annual Gold Medal Plates regional championships in Victoria, BC, as well as the Gold Medal at this year’s Canadian Culinary Championships in Kelowna.
Chef Mark Filatow learned his craft at some of the most celebrated restaurants in BC, including Tofino’s Wickaninnish Inn, Vancouver’s Bishops and Diva at the Met and Kelowna’s Fresco Restaurant. In 2001, he became a member of the prestigious Sommelier Guild. He’s one of the only chefs in Canada with this level of skill in food and wine pairing.
The evening will commence with a canapé reception and a proprietor-led tour of the vineyards. Guests will also enjoy a collection of notable wines from Culmina’s much-admired portfolio, including rare library selections. Dinner will be set in the estate’s Barrel Room and will showcase an Anniversary Rosé fashioned especially for the occasion and the event’s guests.
Brunch on Sunday
The weekend’s events conclude on Sunday, September 16, with a continental grazing brunch catered by Miradoro Catering at Tinhorn Creek. Tickets to the Anniversary Weekend are very limited. Those interested in attending are encouraged to order tickets immediately.
Supporting Local Charities
To further commemorate this milestone anniversary, Culmina is donating all the weekend’s proceeds from its Reserve Tastings to CreateAbility, a local Oliver nonprofit that assists people with disabilities experiment with art as a creative outlet in a nurturing environment.
Catch the Last of the 2018 Sunday Sessions
September 9 signals the end of the winery’s popular Sunday Sessions in conjunction with their fifth anniversary celebrations. The final session explores Culmina’s Bordeaux Varietals. The gathering takes place in Fermentation Hall, and will be spilt in two parts: the first half styled like a traditional seminar and the second like a festival tasting, with small bites and the opportunity for discussion and questions. Don’t miss this unique chance to chat about your favourite varieties with an expert.
