This summer, visitors to the Golden Mile Bench’s pioneering property, Hester Creek Estate Winery, are in for a superb treat: an exclusive release of the 2017 Viognier, only available at the winery.
With just 100 cases crafted, this minimum production wine is the perfect indulgence and won’t last long. The hot days and cool evenings of the south Okanagan are the precise combination one needs to grow Viognier fruit with an impeccable balance of aroma, acidity and flavour. This classic varietal showcases lovely, lifted floral scents of orange blossom and orchard fruit. The mouthfeel is pleasing and full, with a crisp, lingering finish. Enjoy it on your favourite deck, paired with a delicate grilled fish or a light salad.
Hester Creek’s iconic, bold, Bordeaux-style red blend, The Judge, is back. The 2015 version of this classic was released in early July to the joy of wine aficionados everywhere. This warm vintage is a brilliant blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, with heady aromas of black cherry, malt, plum and caramel. Crafted with nicely ripened fruit, it offers a generous palate of black cherry, mocha and vanilla flavours with a touch of cedar and mint. The Judge is available predominantly at the estate, select wine shops and a few fine restaurants. Savour it on its own or enjoy it with big flavourful dishes like a char-grilled New York steak.
Music and More
To accompany their marvellous wine, Hester Creek offers Music on the Patio. This series of free concerts presents the very best of up-and-coming Okanagan musical talent and is carefully curated to reflect the winery’s culture. This summer, look for performances by musicians such as: Ari Neufeld, Joshua Smith and Aidan Mayes and Mandy Cole. For the entire season’s listings visit: hestercreek.com/events/
August 24 to 26 is the winery’s Revival Party weekend. It starts Friday evening with a long table dinner in the vineyard created by Chef Rod Butters and his amazing team. This internationally esteemed chef is renowned for his commitment to BC regional cooking. This dinner is bound to be a one-of-a-kind event.
Saturday is devoted to great wine and music — the best pairing in the world. Visitors can enjoy live music by popular Canadian bands and lots of delicious food. The weekend finishes off with brunch at Terrafina at Hester Creek by RauDZ, the winery’s award-winning Tuscan-style restaurant. Guests are in for a spectacular culinary experience as Chef Butters is acclaimed for capturing the true essence of the Okanagan in his local fare.
