This 24-acre property boasts a 20-acre vineyard, winery with tasting lounge and vineyard terrace located in Comox above the Powell River Ferry dock. First vines were planted in 2005 with majority being rootstock brought in from France. Varieties are Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Gamay Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Auxerrois, Siegerrebe, and Schonberger. Layne and Brenda farm traditionally with the aid of bees, chickens, ducks, geese and sheep to produce clean natural grapes for traditional wine making.
Winemaker Matt Dumayne of Okanagan Crush Pad, originally from New Zealand, now into his 30th vintage, has racked up many awards and accolades for 40 Knots wine portfolio. And although 40 Knots appreciates the confirmation this brings, owners Brenda Hetman-Craig and Layne Robert Craig, say the true confirmation that excellent wines have been produced comes from their ability to sell out of all vintages to very loyal customers and growing fan base.
Fans are encouraged to join the wine club. A full membership includes: Delivery of a special selection of 12 bottles every 3 months AND 15% off AND free shipping. The selection will include special new wines and vintages before release to the public. Selection will be based on season favorites and seasonal food pairings.
40 Knots always has fun events planned at the winery, and this gorgeous venue is also available to rent! Both the tasting room and the outdoor patio offer a beautiful location to host an affair – the property can host a party of 120.
