In the hills of southeast Kelowna you’ll find a remarkable gem, Spierhead Winery, which has gained a solid reputation for its outstanding Pinot Noirs.
Spierhead grows its grapes in three distinct blocks, each with their own mini-microclimate, within its Gentleman Farmer Vineyards. Vineyard expansion is ongoing with new Pinot Noir grapes on the west facing slopes and a likely extension of Riesling planting.
As the 250 wine club members will agree, Spierhead’s events are creative and unique. In the spring there is a vertical tasting of five or six vintages of a single variety of wine. Also, watch for the Spring Okanagan Wine Festival events. Late summer sees members blending their own Pinot Noir. There are plenty of other advantages…check them out or join the club at spierheadwinery.com.
This year the focus is on the new patio and event area beyond the patio, which will hold 50 to 100 guests….an ideal spot for corporate get togethers, small events or receptions. The picnic area is open to the public.
New releases coming in April include Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, all 2015 vintages. Spierhead Winery is open in April and May on weekends; mid-week guests must make an appointment. From June 1st through the end of October, the winery is open daily from 11:00 am to 5:30 pm.
Just a few minutes from downtown Kelowna, you’ll drive through beautiful orchards and vineyards en route to Spierhead Winery. Make 2016 your year to drop in and sample some award winning wines.
