When Sonoran Estate Winery moved back to their original lakeside location 3km north of Summerland last fall, owners Ada and Arjan Smits anticipated changes. Their biggest news is congratulating eldest son Pieter Smits on opening his new Back Door Winery.
Noticed the blue roof on the orange building near the Summerland Visitor Centre? That’s Back Door Winery! The vivid colours and super convenient location will tempt first time visitors. The hip staff, friendly service and tasty wines (plus grand opening case-lot sale!) will ensure repeat customers. Open 7 days/week, 10-6. Pieter and his staff invite you to stop in and see what they’re all about.
Meanwhile, Sonoran has added fresh sandwiches to their pre-packaged picnic menu. There’s plenty of room to relax on their patio. Take in the view with a glass of wine: $5/whites and $6.50/reds, or their famous slushies (with or without the vino!)
“Sonoran’s got some amazing deals happening, like case lot sales and special pricing,” says wine shop manager, Abra. “Sunday afternoon cheese tastings will start soon, or join us for our fall wine fest seminar: The ABC’s of Wine.”
Whether you travel north or south bound through Summerland’s Highway 97, there will be a Smits family-run winery ready to serve you.
