As Hillside Winery & Bistro takes a bow for its latest awards, President Duncan McCowan reflects, “We’re proud of our outstanding team who share a drive to produce the finest wines possible while creating an exceptional experience for visitors.” Most recently, Hillside gave thanks to the readers of the Penticton Western News for selecting it as Platinum winner for Best Winery & Bistro in the South Okanagan. The landmark timber frame building, designed by renowned architect Robert Mackenzie, emulates a traditional gristmill. Along with its impeccable gardens maintained by long-time groundskeeper Karin Parkin, it provides a stunning setting for al fresco dining. What keeps guests racing back are the award-winning wines and mouth-watering menu to match. Known for locally-inspired dishes, the Bistro launched its summer lunch and dinner menu with daily features that add to the delight. Whether you opt for a full meal or something lighter to nibble on, a paired wine or tasting flight of three wines, the awe-invoking views are a feast for your soul. By the upper patio, a distinctive venue accommodates about 65 people for special occasions such as a beautiful wedding. Along with those lovely gardens, top of the tower, vineyards and lakeview as backdrop, it’s picture-perfect to encapsulate that memorable day. For group bookings and events, contact the Bistro Manager Lisa Henderson or make dining reservations (recommended) at hillsidewinery.ca. The Bistro is open daily, 11:30 am to 9 pm. The unique, small-lot and terroir-driven wines made by winemaker Kathy Malone with “gentle touch and minimal intervention” continue to capture recognition in reviews and award competitions. The 2011 Cabernet Franc and 2014 Rosé received Gold Medals at the 2015 All Canadian Wine Awards. The 2014 Rosé also took Silver at the 2015 Great Northwest Wine Competition. These awards as well as a fistful of Silver and Bronze Medals at a variety of competitions are highly affirming for Hillside Winery and its winemakingdecisions. Taste Hillside wines in the air-conditioned wine shop, open daily from 10 am to 7 pm. In addition, you can browse the wine shop for select gift and gourmet food items, sourced from local artisans. You can roam the grounds on a self-guided tour and learn about the winemaking process through detailed poster boards. Or through the summer, guided tours are available by appointment booked in advance.
