This summer, the owners of the Bench Artisan Food Market are venturing out – bound for a market of a different sort. You can now find them in the Downtown Penticton Association’s Community Market.
“We’re offering Bench favourites like granolas, date squares and muffins. We’re also bringing our old-fashioned popcorn machine to make fresh, organic non-GMO popcorn,” says co-owner Heather Glynes.
“People won’t be able to resist the aroma. They’ll follow their nose right to us,” laughs co-owner and Chef Stewart Glynes. “In the last four years, I’ve only been to the market a few times because I’m always working. But it’s such a huge attraction in Penticton, and we should be there to support it. ”
“With the Saturday road closures through downtown, it’s a challenge for people to get to the Bench. So we thought we’d bring the Bench to the market.”
In other news, Stewart is collaborating with Doug ‘Dino’ Dean from Grape Escapes Wine Tours to offer an authentic Okanagan food and wine experience. On Saturdays, Dino’s tours will include a stop at the community market where guests will go on a walkabout with Stewart. Together, they’ll choose farm fresh ingredients for their custom-designed lunch that Stewart will prepare.
“Dino approached me with the idea and I just couldn’t say no,” says Stewart.” He’s a huge supporter of us, and as business owners, we share the same values. It will be a very cool experience for his guests.”
