Summer is upon us and it’s time to get out and enjoy the South Okanagan. Make sure when you’re out and about, you stop in to Silver Sage Winery just south of Oliver where the shop is open daily from 10 to 6. Silver Sage has some wines that are great for warm evenings on the patio. The 2013 Sunset is a blend of white wine, cranberry and raspberry and it is so exuberantly pink it looks like a rosy glass of joy. Summer in a glass! Elena recommends it partially frozen and mixed with vodka at sunset.
A new release for summer is the 2012 The Passion Pinot Noir. The nose is rich with cherry and vanilla notes followed by an intensely fruity palate with a long, soft finish. The perfect dessert wine to keep handy in your fridge is the 2013 The Pearle. A Port-style fortified wine made from black currants and blackberries, this wine is filled with intense berry flavours and would be the perfect finish to any meal. Enjoy it on its own or with a cheese platter. Make sure to include a visit to Silver Sage in your summer wine tour.
