It’s always sunny in Summerland if you stop at Sonoran Winery,” according to “Sensational Sonny,” one of Sonoran’s tasting room staff. While it’s clear the owners and staff don’t take themselves too seriously, they do take their wines and bistro very seriously.
This summer, Chef Pierre Luc is taking the lead at the winery’s Full Moon Bistro. Bringing with him a wealth of cooking experience from across Canada, he’s revamping the popular lunch menu. Guests can look forward to refreshing salads and mouth-watering pizzas hot out of the winery’s new wood-fired oven. If you’re touring Bottleneck Drive, the bistro is an ideal mid-way stop to satisfy your appetite.
“You must try his pineapple salsa. Our customers have told us it’s to die for,” says winery owner Ada Smits. “And after you’ve experienced his salsa, sit back on our patio, and take in the best view in Summerland. I think this is why people like our winery – we’re a friendly bunch who invites you to stay a while.”
In addition to savouring the panoramic views of Okanagan Lake and lush orchards below, how about showing off your singing skills? Drop by Saturday afternoons for some fun karaoke. “Please join in!” laughs Smits. “Sensational Sonny loves to sing, so she’ll get things going.”
Need a little liquid courage to get behind the microphone? Ask staff member “Terrific Tracy” (who is famous for crafting the bistro’s homemade soups) to recommend her favourite wine, or try the cool, bubbly and appropriately-named Sparkling Jazz Trio.
