When you grow up in an agricultural family, spending summers picking and packaging fruit in your parents’ packinghouse as siblings Christina, Nicole and Michael Ferreira did, you learn early about work ethics. You also discover how to squeeze in some fun in the daily routine. So when the trio decided to embark on an exciting new venture together, it makes sense that they’d leverage the farming in their blood. Why not blend that with their over 10 years experience in various areas of the wine industry to create a winery with a bit of pizzazz and playfulness?
“Our wines,” says Christina, marketing and sales (Okanagan and BC interior), “are meant to be fun and easy drinking patio sippers.” There are three blends – a red, pink and white and a new 2011 Merlot varietal to be launched at the spring wine festival. Squeezed wines are available in VQA and other wine stores, and soon you’ll be able to sip Squeezed Wines in its own tasting room. Stay tuned for the wineshop’s opening late this spring or summer at the property on Tucelnuit Road.
Michael is also winemaker at Quinta Ferreira and apprenticed under Michael Bartier, one of the Okanagan’s leading winemakers. Bringing his award-winning skills to Squeezed Wines, Michael views it as a way to create another style of wine with the same principles of quality and consistency. Nicole is the number cruncher and looks after administration and sales (Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island).
Watch for Squeezed Wines and the talented team at events throughout the season such as the Oliver Osoyoos Oyster Festival, spring wine festival, Bacchanalia at Penticton Lakeside Resort, Feast of Fields and Oliver’s Festival of the Grape. Best way to keep up with this approachable and sociable brand is on Facebook and Twitter.
