At The View Winery, you get a wonderful feeling as soon as you enter the tasting room. An embracing, warm glow of history combined with energizing innovations of present day creates a profound sense of welcome. Who doesn’t want to have a taste of wine when you are among friends?!
The Turton-Ward family has farmed their plot of land in South Kelowna for five generations. Jennifer Turton-Molgat, President of The View Winery, is just as passionate about her wines as her Great Grandfather Ward was about his apple cider. Her lively spirit seems to come through in the character of the aromatic whites and richly flavoured reds. Jennifer’s enthusiasm for sharing the wines is also indicative of her passion to show the value of a farm-to-table experience. You really can taste the bounty of the farm in every glass; it’s a beautiful way to appreciate our local farmers.
A perfect autumn taste is their 2010 Pinotage ($22.90)
This cross of Cinsault and Pinot Noir offers a delicious combination of dark fruit and an elegant earthiness. It is the perfect transition from summer wines and pairs beautifully with roasted or grilled meats or game. And for those who may be scared away by the talk of sexy red shoes, never fear! They have something for the male gender too. Ward’s Hard Cider – an aromatic and flavourful alternate to wine at a fall supper – or the 2012 Fossil Fuel ($16.40), a manly red blend that “gets your motor runnin’ and keeps you more than satisfied”.
The View is open year round for tastings and they also support many community events and causes via The View Cares: Red Shoe Campaign. For full details, visit them at www.theviewwinery.com.
