The picturesque SpierHead Winery has quickly gained a reputation for its excellent handcrafted, quality wines. Acclaimed winemaker Bill Pierson has done a great job in producing wines that display depth, flavour and good varietal character. The number of awards that the winery has racked up in such a short time is impressive. When I spoke with Marina Knutson, co-owner of SpierHead, she was clearly very excited by this, and a number of new initiatives that have taken place over the past few months.
The winery has launched a new bright dynamic website which is both secure and easy to navigate. You can buy wine online as well as being kept up-to-date with news and events. You can also follow them on Twitter @spierheadwinery. You’ll notice from the website that the winery has created a new Wine Club, where membership definitely has its privileges! These include quarterly wine shipments, discounts, complimentary tastings, and access to newly released wines and wines from their library. Demand for the soon to be released 2012 Pinot Noir is sure to be high and the Wine Club is a great way of securing a bottle or two. Look out too, for the new label adorning their premium red wine, the Vanguard, it’s both classic and stylish.
SpierHead is also part of Fab Five Wine Trail and I would thoroughly recommend this charming trail which features the five boutique-style wineries of East Kelowna. Be sure to pick up your “Passport“ and gather stamps from the other four wineries and you’ll be entered to win one of five cases of the Fab Five Wine Trail’s wine.
2011 SpierHead Pursuit $23.90
A red blend that is rich, smooth and full bodied.
2011 SpierHead Vanguard $29.90
Only 100 cases were made of the wineries flagship Bordeaux blend. It’s elegant and complex with concentrated dark fruits and supple tannins.
