Basket Case Picnics is expanding this fall with the addition of talented Chef Alex Lavroff. Chef Alex is a graduate of the culinary program at the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts. After spending time working at high end restaurants across BC, Chef Alex has landed his “dream job” in the Okanagan Valley.
“I’m really excited! It’s a dream job for any chef to be able to work with the freshest, most wholesome ingredients, as well as working at the beautiful locations in the Okanagan.” he says. “I am lucky to be able to grow and develop as a chef with this company that is doing something so unique right now” he adds.
During the Fall Wine Festival, Basket Case’s picnic truck will be on location at wineries such as Vibrant Vine and Ancient Hill. Chef says, “we will have sharing plates available on location at the wineries, which include flat breads and pecan crusted brie. It’s nice to come and share a picnic with your friends.” You can order a gourmet 4-course picnic at over 80 picnic licensed wineries. All picnics come in a reusable cooler made from recycled products, with reusable biodegradable flatware, tableware and food containers.
Signature dishes on the menu include Sockeye Salmon Wellington, which is made with a cream cheese, mascarpone, truffle oil and chive filling and wrapped in a puffed pastry with a savoury jam. Also popular is the Organic Stuffed Chicken Breast with sun dried tomato pesto and cream cheese.
Owner Kelsey Galt is excited about the addition of Chef Alex to the team. She invites corporate, private, wedding and Christmas party enquiries for a customized and authentic Okanagan celebration.
