This is a banner year for the Ferreira family and they are celebrating as any winery family would – they have made more wine! John and Maria Ferreira farmed their land as orchardists for 20 years, but their love of wine won out and they converted the orchards to vineyards. In honour of 5 years of being in business as a winery, Winemaker and son, Michael Ferreira, has produced the winery’s first port style wine as well as releasing the 2008 premium reds – award-winning blend, Obra Prima and Private Reserve Merlot. The rich fruit flavours and underlying spice along with velvety tannins make these wines just the thing for an autumn evening. They are all perfect reasons to visit the winery, open through October 31 from 10 am till 6 pm.
Another new facet of the Quinta Ferreira portfolio are the new Artist series wines, with labels produced by local import Carmen Tome, who is also a member of the family. Look for 2009 Mistura Branca, 2009 Chardonnay, 2009 Rosé, 2009 Mistura Tinto, 2008 Merlot and 2008 Obra Prima in this beautiful commemorative series.
Of course, wine is best shared at a celebration and the Annual Lamb Dinner is back for those looking to celebrate harvest in full style. This event always sells out so don’t delay in buying your tickets. The Dairy Farmers of Canada offer samples of a selection of Canadian cheeses at a reception, and then it’s down to the underground wine caves to enjoy a harvest feast with full ambience.
Chef Neil Schroeter of Okanagan Street Food prepares a four-course dinner that is paired with Quinta Ferreira’s award-winning wines. Saturday, September 29th – tickets are available at the winery. Contact them at 250-498-4756 or winery@quintaferreira.com
