My first Poppadoms experience was celebrating my daughter's birthday. We both love Indian food, and word-on-the-street said Poppadoms was great and its convenient location by Kelowna's largest movie theatres dove-tailed with our dinner-and-a-movie plans.
I'll forever remember the look of rapture on Zoe's face as she polished off her butter-chicken and mango lassi. The food, the ambiance, the service – everything was perfect.
“Indian food is about making people feel like they can just be themselves,” explains Aman Dosanj, who works alongside siblings Jasmin and Harry and their parents to operate the award-winning restaurant.
Dosanj is very excited about their new summer menu. All the favourites will remain: sustainable foods (Poppadoms is “Ocean Wise”), healthy choices (lots of vegetarian/vegan fare), and impressive gluten-free options is simply expanding to include more local, seasonal ingredients.
Harry has created a delectable series of Indian-inspired cocktails, including a Margarita (with tamarind), a 'Gindian' (classic gin & tonic with star anise) and 'Drunken Lassi' (spiked with vanilla vodka).
The Dosanj family hails from Southampton, UK, and the British vibe is evident on many levels.
British Football fans will feel right at home as Poppadoms' airs England's games during the 2012 Euro Championships (June 1 – July 1). Opening to accommodate the 9am games, Poppadoms is featuring an 'Indglish breakfast' with bacon naans, a new breakfast lassi and homemade masala tea. The 11:45 games highlight Curry & Chips, a Brit-friendly menu and beer (on sale!).
Every Wednesday night in August is the Great British Menu: a patio street-party theme, featuring an Indian twist on British classics.
