If you are planning a culinary trip to the coast in the near future, you will want to spend some time checking out the new pizza ovens that are springing up all over town. The latest to open is Famoso on Commercial Drive and Pizzeria Barberella at 654 East Broadway, both selling the authentic Neapolitan- style of crust. Tea lovers can tip and sip at the newly opened Salon Tea on South Granville, or check out the new tea-infused cocktails in downtown at The Urban Tea Merchant, also a favourite for afternoon tea.
If you are thinking BBQ, Vancouver’s newest spot, Fat Dragon, combines Asian flavours with BBQ in the Downtown East Side on Powell. Street food is also hot as there are also plenty of new food trucks serving everything from BBQ to tacos. The newest additions include Street Meet Truck serving up pies and burgers, while Pig on The Street does healthy soups and sandwiches. Bistro dining just got better with the addition of the Le Parisienne, the newest French room, brought to us by the owner of Bistro Pastis and located on Denman near Robson. Mark Taylor of Cru Restaurant has opened Siena, a Mediterranean spot on South Granville.
Gourmet donuts are trending with Cartems Donuterie’s on Carrall and Hastings; they’re frying up flavours such as carrot cake and earl grey. Pastry lovers have another reason to indulge with sandwiches, cookies and sticky buns at Cadeaux on Powell Street, and macarons and still all the rage at Soirette Macaron at 1433 West Pender and French Made Baking at 81 Kingsway.
Just as this magazine went to print Fable (Farm to Table) opened its doors, replacing Refuel on West Fourth. This highly anticipated spot is brought to us by Trevor Bird, currently in the running for Top Chef Canada.
