Ricardo Scebba & Sue Miller are the proprietors of an award winning restaurant located in Lake Country (specifically, in the Holiday Park Resort). They are a living example of how important it is to do what you love and love what you do. Eleven years ago, they took an empty space in an out of the way place and, with a few bucks, some sweat equity and a large degree of optimism, transformed it into a true family business that has become their legacy of love.
Ricardo’s Mediterranean Kitchen is a true family business. Two of their four children work out front with Sue. In the back, another son cooks alongside his father. Ricardo’s father Joe supplies the kitchen with fresh, organic produce. His mother Connie provides guidance (and meatballs!) in the kitchen. There is no match for an Italian Nonna in the kitchen!
Ricardo and Sue decided to celebrate a decade by sharing Ricardo’s recipes with the world. “That’s Amore” is a fantastic cookbook that shows the reader how to make the meals that their patrons have enjoyed for years. According to Ricardo, his goal has always been “to make things taste good, simply.” Publishing their first cookbook has been a labour of love for both of them, with many more family members pitching in.
Those of us in the South Okanagan who have a hard time making it north for dinner with Ricardo & Sue have a couple of options. Catch their cooking show on Okanagan Today on the Shaw Community Channel, featuring celebrity guests like singer/songwriter Barney Bentall. They will also be hosting cooking classes with Frances Sologuk at the Osoyoos Home Hardware, and at Hester Creek Winery this fall. To become part of La Famiglia, follow them on twitter (@RicardosMed), or better yet, make a reservation and pop in for a visit.
