In the whole of the Okanagan there are only a handful of restaurants that lakeside, and one of the most beautiful is Wild Apple Restaurant and Lounge, located in the handsome Manteo Resort. Spring brings a new menu, chosen to reflect the seasonal offerings of the local area by Executive Chef Bernard Casavant. “Our menu is wine country cuisine’, says Heather Schroeter, General Manager of the Manteo Resort, “you have to try the signature Mountain Berry ‘T’ Crusted Duck Breast or the Star Anise Infused Wild Salmon. They are amazing.”
Dining on the waterfront not only offers spectacular views of the lake and incomparable sunsets, but when the wind is up the kite surfers who launch from nearby Gyro Beach put on a great show. “We even sponsored a wind surfer, you’ll see his sail with the Wild Apple logo on one side and Manteo on the other. These guys are like storm chasers!” The restaurant is open daily from 7 am through to 10 pm. Enjoy classic Eggs Benny for breakfast or the popular Cinnamon Spiced Oatmeal with Cinnamon Steeped Warm Milk. There isn’t a more perfect spot to drop in for lunch or mid afternoon tea or drinks and take in the view and the outdoor patio opens in May. The wine list is thoughtful and showcases Okanagan wines to pair with the excellent food. Heather has been at the hotel for 11 of its 12 years and loves the boutique flavor of Manteo. “It’s all about the people, our happy smiling faces and level of service sets up apart. We have the opportunity to get to know everyone.”
For the 10 days of Spring Wine Festival, Chef Bernard will offer two courses – either appetizer and main or main and dessert – with a glass of local wine for $39.00. And don’t miss Earth Day at Manteo; all the lights in the resort are turned off and dining in the Wild Apple is by candlelight only. Whatever the occasion, a visit to this beautiful lakeside restaurant is always a memorable event.
